[Just launched] Facebook (German) TV programm application now live!

It took quite a while from the initial idea to the actual implementation. Most of which was spent learning Facebook and Symfony2. But it was well woth the hassle in many respects.

See Facebook TV Programm in action here!

Or read on.

So what is it?

Well it’s a tv guide for the main tv stations in Germany. On the app you can browse the program for the next seven days and mark those you want to see (“Das will ich sehen!”).

Those shows you clicked will then be added to your lists of events so you don’t have to revisit the application only to see what you wanted to watch.

There is also going to be a post to your wall telling your friends about you planning to watch the show.

The app is implemented using Symfony2 though in the end the main application is build with HTML5 boilerplate and some Javascript which is much faster and stable than all other Facebook SDKs.

Symfony2 is used for a bit of templating only and some giant console tasks that update the pages and database.

I hope you like it!

I get a warning that I have to switch to http to use this app, is there a reason why this does not work with https, maybe a facebook limitation?

No that’s us unfortunately. I didn’t manage to get the server listening on HTTP so far.. will enable https soon.
