Finally a feature I missed from Facebook Open Graph Social Readers

Yesterday some colleagues of mine launched the first German social reader magazine on Facebook after popular titles like The Guardian and Washington Post.

They added one feature that I sorely missed in the others.

The stern.de social reader follows the same principles as WP and Guardian. In a nutshell it presents articles and other contents based on what your friends have read before.

But unlike WP and Guardian it does offer a navigation that allows you to explore contents that your friends haven’t read before!

My reading experience with WP and Guardian is lacking exactly that feature. Sure I like to read what my friends obviously found interesting but I also want to find contents for my own interests and in my interest I do differ from my friends. Sure the majority of my interest is shared with one or many of my friends but there are some that are mine and mine alone.

Just as well as I am not interested in everything my friends read they will not be interested in everything I read. But how can I find those articles that only interest me when all I get to see is stuff my friends read?

For instance I like Charlie Brooker who additionally to his television appearances writes in the Guardian. Apparently none of my friends who use the Guardian app ever read something he wrote – therefore I am not able to find Brooker articles in the Guardian social app.

A big thanks to those involved in making this new Facebook app!
