After long discussions we managed to reduce our requirements to a minimum. The project was ready to go.
Then I got a phone call.
Following a previous post where I wrote about the benefits it has to include someone in your project planning that knows the architecture of your existing technology.
For a recent project we did just that and reduced the effort and costs by a factor 10 at least. Until that phone call.
A developer called me who is working for one of the departments we wanted to connect with this project and asked me again what I wanted to achieve. So I told him.
What she told me back had an unexpected effect on our project.
Apparently everything we needed to achieve our goals was already implemented but was undocumented.
Our efforts and costs vanished.
Moral of the story: not only include an architect in your discussion but a developer as well.
