A long time ago I had the idea to place adverts on testically.org for the sole reason of learning about advertising mechanics a bit more. Because I know this will annoy you I planned to use the incoming money to sponsor something Open Source.
I’m about to start this now.
The impulse to get started on this now was given by to colleagues of mine that developed a little service focussing on ad blocker users. Once I tried them thoroughly I will of course introduce them to you here.
However the first fact I learned about the visitors of this website – about you! – is that about 16-17% are using an ad blocker. The figure isn’t representative at all and might go up or down if monitored over a longer stretch of time. But it surprised me already.
Because actually I expected much more.
For sites much bigger than my own like the Financial Times Germany that I work for we always assumed about 20-25% and I expected tech-savvy users like my target audience to be using ad blockers more commonly.
Anyhow please expect there to be ads on testically.org soon and remember: it’s all for a good cause.
