When I wrote down my predictions for 2012 one of the things I anticipated was Facebook creating an ad network to serve social ads off of Facebook on other websites.
Apparently preparations seem to be getting final.
Looking at your AdSense figures in Google Analytics is one of the most important features as it allows you to segment your traffic any way you like and see what it’s actually worth so you can decide where to focus.
Unfortunately the integration isn’t living up to its expectations.
If you have read my post earlier this week you know that I am involved in multivariate testing of Google AdSense ads. I know a few sites that do this but there aren’t many.
Obviously you can directly increase your display revenue this way but there is another reason why AdSense is the ideal place to start testing.
Over the last few months I have been working on ways to use Google Website Optimizer on Google AdSense ads to improve click through rates (CTR). We ran a small experiment on a subsection of a big website (20+ mio. visits a months).
The result is already fantastic!
I thought I found a way using the social tracking feature of Google Analytics to combine Google Website Optimizer experiment information with AdSense data without touching the Google Analytics code.
Turns out I was wrong.
Many of you are probably using Google AdSense and some of you might also know about Google Website Optimizer. But if you ever though about combining the two you will have learned that they are not exactly optimized to work together.
Well it can be done and doing it will eventually earn you more money!
Write a script that tracks some values in Google Analytics per page. After a few previous attempts (and believe me there have been a lot more!) I finally found something that did exactly what I was looking for.
Google Analytics – Social Interaction Analytics!
We all know that all Google products have one single major goal and that is to gather dat about everyone for a better ad targeting with AdSense. Who didn’t see that coming please wake up.
Now I just read how to find out what Google thinks it knows about you and it’s pretty accurate.
I just read an article called “6 ways Google gets your data“ in which you can read about six ways Google gathers information about you as a person. In it the author explains that about the only place Google could not read was Facebook.
But is that the reason for Google+?
