ChromeOS, Android, OS X, iOS, .. Quo vadis operating systems?

Earlier this week on Techcrunch I read that the next version of Chrome OS will be more like Windows or other classical desktop OS than before. On my macbook I use OS X Lion which shows obvious signs of turning towards iOS. Android versions have been announced for smartphones only before they were designed for tablets.
Have todays requirements for operating system changed so much to cause confusion?
